Study Medicine is a free learning tool for medical students. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. It is the authoritative description of our data handling.
Information we collect
- Account information. Your email address and name, and if you sign in with Google or Apple, the basic profile information that provider returns (name, email). We use this to create and secure your account.
- Learning activity. Your answers to practice questions, quiz, exam and OSCE activity, review schedule, saved items, and any feedback or error reports you send. This powers your progress, spaced review, and the answer statistics shown in the app.
- Profile information. The details you give during onboarding, such as your school, year of study, program, and country.
- Usage and technical data. Standard information collected by most websites and apps: which pages and features you use and for how long, basic interaction events, device and browser type, and approximate location (country and region) derived from your network connection. We use cookies and similar on-device storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences.
How we use it
- To provide the platform: track your progress, schedule reviews, and personalize practice.
- To show aggregate statistics, such as how other students answered a question. These never identify you.
- To improve the platform. We routinely review usage and answer data to find errors, improve or retire weak questions, fix problems, and decide what to build next. Where we can, we do this with aggregate or de-identified data.
- To operate and secure the service, and to contact you about your account.
Sharing
We do not sell your data. Data is processed by the service providers that run the platform (hosting, database and sign-in, and email delivery) under their respective terms, solely to operate the service. Some of these providers store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that country. We may share aggregate or de-identified statistics that cannot reasonably be used to identify you, and we may disclose information where the law requires it.
Your choices and deletion
You can delete your account from within the app at any time (open Settings, then Delete account). Deleting your account removes your login and identifiable personal information. Learning-activity records are kept only in de-identified form (replaced with an irreversible pseudonym) so that question statistics stay accurate, and they can no longer be linked back to you. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to stop using your data for anything beyond running your account, by contacting us through the support page linked below.
Data retention
We keep your account and learning data while your account is active. On deletion, identifiable data is removed or de-identified as described above. De-identified and aggregate data may be kept to maintain platform statistics.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your data. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The platform is intended for medical students and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "last updated" date above.
